Tammy

Tammy Steuber had always wondered what it would be like to have a makeover, so when Womeninc magazine approached her with the opportunity for a makeover at Essence Salon & Spa in Fairmont, Minnesota, she immediately agreed.
With the appointment made and the day getting closer, Tammy found herself nervously wondering about how things would turn out. A week before the makeover Tammy contacted stylist LeAnna Toft to express her concerns about her naturally curly hair. She told her that in her past experiences, stylists have struggled to find a cut that works and generally recommended straightening her hair. Hearing Tammy’s concerns, LeAnna was more than happy to meet with her in advance of the makeover and Tammy was delighted to meet someone who, for the first time, was genuinely excited about her curls.
On the day of her makeover Essence Salon owner Melanie Harder greeted Tammy and treated her to a manicure and pedicure. Tammy savored the pampering experience.
With her fingernails and toenails painted Candy Hot Pink, she moved to LeAnna’s chair where she relaxed with an unexpected shoulder and scalp massage before her shampoo and conditioning. LeAnna then began a coloring process of applying several lowlights along with complimentary highlights in a combination of colors so subtle they look beautifully natural yet, when light hits them, the rich colors are striking. To give Tammy fullness and dimension, LeAnna snipped the ends in different lengths. Drying her hair using a diffuser enhanced her natural curl, curling the top gave a looser appearance, and straightening the bangs completed the look. To complete Tammy’s makeover LeAnna applied makeup.
Leaving the salon, Tammy noticed that her cheeks were hurting and soon realized that it was because she had not stopped smiling since she had walked through the door of Essence Salon & Spa five hours earlier.

With an upcoming January wedding, one of the items on the “to do” list of bride-to-be Mya Neises was selecting her hairstyle, so now seemed like the perfect time for a makeover from Liv Aveda Salon & Spa in Mankato.
Mya and her fiancé Joel will be married in Riviera Maya, Mexico. Mya has been looking through numerous magazines to find a hairstyle she likes and one she and her bridesmaids can make look good on their own. In anticipation of her wedding day she has been growing out her hair, giving her more options. She found styles she has liked, but has not been sure what would look best, not only on her wedding day, but every day.
At Liv Aveda, Mya was able discuss her concerns with Master Stylist Lynn Svoboda. Together they looked through styling books and discussed eye color, face shape, skin tone, and age and came up with a process that was appropriate for Mya’s fine hair. By manipulating the hair with products and the texture that comes from coloring, Lynn would be able to give Mya more volume in her final look. Lynn also gave her some ideas about accessorizing her hair with a tropical flower or considering the use of hair extensions just for the wedding.
As you can see from the photos, Mya looks beautiful and her new style is classy. The shorter length flatters her face and subtle highlighting shades give a very natural look. She feels confident in her new hairstyle and enjoys its simplicity each morning when she gets ready for work at The Ad Pros.
In addition to a new hairstyle, Mya was treated to a facial and makeup from Liv Aveda by Esthetician and Makeup Artist Sara Long.  Mya explains the facial as being better than a massage and was inspired by the makeup – especially the bright colored lipstick that she had never worn before, but now will use.
Mya felt she was among friends her entire time at Liv Aveda and has checked off an important item on her list.
